The Science Council of Japan (SCJ) is the representative organization of the Japanese scientific community ranging over all fields of sciences subsuming the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, natural sciences, and engineering. The SCJ has undertaken wide-ranging international activities, including the so-called Future Earth initiative, which is an international science endeavour to achieve a transition to global sustainability. Not only does the SCJ constitute one of the Global Hubs of Future Earth, it also also provides various science advice in order to stimulate social innovation through the application of science, such as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Moreover, the SCJ strongly helps support young scientists by establishing the Young Academy of Japan.
